Biography
Etgar Keret and Shira Geffen are a couple in work and in life.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1967, Etgar Keret started writing in 1992 and
is the most popular writer among Israeli youth today. His writing
style is lean, utilizing everyday language. His books have received
international acclaim and have been published in 22 languages. Over
40 short movies have been based on his stories, one of which won
the American MTV Prize (1998). He also wrote Graphic Novels and occasional
for television and film. His first movie, Skin Deep, won First Prizes
at several international film festivals, and was awarded the Israeli
Oscar. Keret is at present a lecturer in the film department at Tel
Aviv University. He has received the Book Publishers Association’s
Platinum Prize several times. He has also been awarded the Prime
Minister’s Prize, and the Ministry of Culture’s Cinema Prize.
Shira Geffen was born in 1971 in Ramat-Gan, Israel. She is considered
as one of the most creative artists nowadays in Israel. She has been
specially recognized for her children books and her plays and stage
directions on tour in Israel and abroad. She wrote the script of Jellyfish
and directed the film together with her husband Etgar Keret.
