The Dust of History

by Silvina Der-Meguerditchian
7'40''

The video shows in the beginning an abstract landscape, we hear a squeaky sound. Later we see a woman in interaction with precious objects, going beyond iconography focusing on the labour of care and preservation. The naivety of the voice humming, the persistence of the brush sound, the flying dust, all those elements open a space for a singular way to deal with heritage, objects and transmitted memories. The video was shot in  2015 in the ancient library and the museum of the Armenian Monastery of the Mekhistarists Congregation on the island of San Lazzaro, in the Venetian Lagoon.
