THE PROJECT

With When the Sky Invades the Earth, Christina Oiticica continues an artistic exploration based on the collaboration between art and natural forces.

 

On June 5, 2026, one of the artist’s works was immersed in the waters of Lake Maggiore, near Isola San Giovanni Borromeo. Left underwater for three months, it will be transformed by the lake’s movements, light, currents, and microorganisms.

 

This work, metamorphosed by nature, will be presented to the public at the Grand Hôtel Majestic, alongside around forty drawings and paintings. The exhibition reveals the core process of her work: allowing time and natural elements to become co-authors of the artwork.

 

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Christina Oiticica is an internationally renowned Brazilian artist living in Geneva. Her work explores the relationship between nature, time, and transformation.

 

Close to land art practices, she integrates natural elements (earth, water, minerals) into her works and often entrusts them to the elements: buried, immersed, or exposed to the weather, they evolve in contact with nature.

 

Her work has developed across the Amazon, Europe, the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean islands, and Lake Maggiore, as well as along the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, a major source of spiritual inspiration. Muse and companion of writer Paulo Coelho, she has accompanied him on his journeys and spiritual projects, developing a closeness to themes of introspection and inner awakening.

 

GRAND HÔTEL MAJESTIC

The Grand Hôtel Majestic, located in Pallanza facing Isola San Giovanni, is a historic site on Lake Maggiore, between Italy and Switzerland. Since 1870, this “feet-in-the-water” palace has embodied a meeting point between culture, nature, and artistic creation, now engaged in a sustainable vision.
